Urine is a difficult odour to remove. Urine is detected more in humid rooms due to moisture getting trapped in the salt crystals of the urine and emanating an ammonia odour.
Female dogs and cats have higher levels of nitrogen in their urine. Female animals will usually choose areas of high traffic and away from walls The higher nitrogen attacks the dyes in the carpet, usually leaving a light stain.
Male animals will mark vertical territories and furniture. Urine is acidic, but dries to a salt alkaline residue. Keep in mind that urine on walls can spread to floorboards.
Recommended removal method:
- Determine the location of the urine. If the specific area is not obvious then this can be done with an ultraviolet torch. The urine will glow.
- Saturate the area with Urine Contamination Treatment
- Spray the entire room with your choice of our ‘Kill Odour Plus’
- If an area of the room, such as a corner, is severely contaminated with urine, pull up the carpet and dispose of the underlay.
- Apply Urine Contamination Treatment undiluted to the carpet (back & front) and to the floor.
- Install new underlay and reinstall the carpet when it has dried completely.
- Clean the carpet using hot water extraction method.
